The Floating Cities Of The Future

The Floating Cities Of The Future
Real estate opportunity in most cities is dwindling, and while we can appreciate the high rise and up-in-the-sky living, this floating city (or rather, an ecopolis as it’s been termed) peaked our interest. Vincent Callebaut, the principal architect of Vincent Callebaut Architecture, has designed the Lilypad, a concept for a self-sufficient floating city with permanent residents for climate refugees. The Lilypad is meant to sail (float?) around the globe every two years and offers all the attractions and amenities one would expect from a city (including the world’s largest shopping mall, a college and a hospital). Suites start at US $121,000 for a 300 square foot room and go up to US $11 million for a 5,100 square foot suite on the island’s (aka ship’s) exclusive 21st floor.
